Die Entwickler von Ubuntu haben sich zum Ziel gesetzt, alle 6 Monate eine neue Version von Ubuntu zu veröffentlichen.

Die Codenamen der einzelnen Versionen basieren auf Tiernamen und einem vorangestellten Adjektiv. (z.B. Schicker Narwal - 11.04)

Ubuntu-Version werden in der Regel 18 Monate lang mit Updates versorgt. Einige Ubuntu-Versionen werden mit der Bezeichnung
